Extraction of a third molar (wisdom tooth) near the Inferior Alveolar Nerve (IAN) carries the risk of complication like Nerve Damage: Nerve damage can lead to temporary or numbness, tingling, or altered sensation in the lower lip, chin, tongue, or teeth on the affected side. To minimize the risk of complications, it’s crucial for the procedure to be performed by an experienced oral surgeon who can assess the proximity of the wisdom tooth to the IAN and take appropriate precautions to safeguard the nerve during extraction. Additionally, following post-operative instructions and attending follow-up appointments is essential for proper healing and early detection of any potential complications.
