Gum disease is a common word. So you can have gum disease without any warning signs. But you cannot have periodontitis without any warning

signs are subjective to patient. what some may consider pathologic might be treated as normal by some patients. Gingivitis also have some warning signs but  the patient is not sensitised to them. That's why a regular check up is recommended to assess the oral condition and advise.
