Swollen Gums

2018-08-12 16:28:25
I have an issue of extremely sensitive. Got a session of scaling done to reduce the bacteria (4-5) sittings. However, my issue is severe and if anything at all gets stuck in the teeth, it swells up and hurts like hell. Only way to survive is to keep eating pain killer and visit the dentist for spot cleaning etc. I've been told that I need to get Lazer cleaning done with anaesthesia. Is that the sure shot way to get rid of the problem?

Hello, We will have to check that whether is proximal caries or the bone loss which is causing food impaction. If it is gum problem due to bone loss then scaling polishing and proper laser SRP will give good results. After which maintainence is very important.
Next Steps
visit a dentist.

Hi. Yes u might need a laser deep cleaning also called as a laser SRP if the inflammation is extensive. Gum issues generally get resolved with proper delivery of the procedures and post operative care. I would advise you to visit a gum specialist and get it diagnosed well. Feel free to visit me sometime.

First of all, we have to take an IOPA. We have to see whether there is any proximal caries or the bone level around that tooth area has recessed or not. If it has recessed too much, exposing the root of your tooth then you need scaling plus root planing procedure if the tartar is into your gums, bone grafting and then periodontal surgery to bring the level back over the tooth. So your food lodgement issue and sensitivity issue will be solved. Because as you are saying the food is getting stuck in the teeth then there must be some caries or caries may be developing in some time due to this food lodgement. The other option is if the gum and bone level has not gone down that deep and no caries is present, then your sensitivity issue will only be resolved by doing intentional root canal treatment with a cap over it.
