Can excessive depression makes a gentle kind hearted man  sex addict...one of my my friend becomes so depressed by recalling some past issues nd becomes depressed..repititively thinking about same things..wants to give divorce wife...some times feeling guilty..some time suicidal..spending sleeplessnight..irritate easily..want to have new relation only to divert mind..sometimes hopeless sometime excessive cruelty in nature..restlessness..constant negative thought

Yes, it can to cope with stress. I would suggest that your friend should seek professional help of a Psychologist to take therapy as it seems that he is going through some major traumatic experiences of his life which he is unable to deal with.
