Upper GI endoscopy is advised when the symptoms of the upper digestive tract are prominent.  The symptoms like hyperacidity,  upper abdominal pain,  loss of appetite,  loss of weight,  vomiting,  bloating. Lower GI endoscopy is advised when lower GI symptoms predominate.  Like bleeding per rectum,  excessive mucus and blood in stools,  recently changed bowel habits,  lower abdominal pain.  Cost of endoscopy differs from the hospital at which it is done and the various facilities available at the centre.  The cost may increase if anesthesia is required during the procedure.  Some hospitals are very particular about getting the viral markers like HIV,  HBsAg,  HCV done before taking the patient in the endoscopy room.  If the biopsy is taken from some suspicious area,  It increases the cost of the procedure.  Generally The diagnostic scopy should cost less than Rs.  10000 at a good centre.
