Small boils on Hands and Chest

2024-12-02 06:16:17
Hi My one and half year old son had atopic dermatitis with red rashes behind his knees and on ankle skin fold. A skin specialist recommended Desowen cream for 20 days. That resolved the issue. Whenever the problem appears again we apply the cream for a few days and the rash disappears. Doctor said it's normal until the age of 5 for the problem to reappear. We additionally use Cetaphil liquid soap and moisturize him twice after morning and evening bath. We use absorb powder on his neck, arm pits and groin. Of late he has a cluster of boils in both his hands and a few on his chest. They are small and transparent. He continues to itch himself and scratch his arms despite the moisturization. He is generally happy and playful. The boils don't impact him. Just wanted to learn what could this be and is there anything we can do to avoid the recurring skin issues.

It sounds like your son is dealing with a combination of atopic dermatitis and possibly another skin condition. The small, transparent boils could be related to a few different issues: Miliaria (Heat Rash): This occurs when sweat ducts become blocked and sweat gets trapped under the skin. It often appears as small, clear blisters or bumps and can be itchy1. Folliculitis: This is an inflammation of the hair follicles, which can cause small, itchy bumps or pustules2. Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis): Sometimes, eczema can present with small blisters, especially if the skin is irritated or infected3. Given that your son is already under the care of a dermatologist, it would be best to consult them again for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Here are a few general tips that might help manage his skin condition: Continue Moisturizing: Keep up with the regular moisturizing routine, as dry skin can exacerbate itching and rashes. Avoid Overheating: Dress your son in loose, breathable clothing to prevent overheating and sweating, which can worsen skin conditions. Gentle Skincare Products: Stick to mild, fragrance-free soaps and detergents to avoid irritating his skin. Monitor for Infections: If the boils become red, swollen, or filled with pus, it might indicate an infection, and you should seek medical advice promptly. It’s great to hear that your son remains happy and playful despite these skin issues. Keeping a close eye on his symptoms and maintaining open communication with me will be key in managing his condition effectively. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!
