Sleeplessness is a symptom and not a disorder in itself. It is important to find the underlying cause, so that it can appropriately and effectively addressed. Most common cause of sleep problem is psychological stress, anxiety or depression which often reduces deep sleep resulting in daytime lethargy, lack of motivation, irritability, reduced concentration etc. It is important to rule out any underlying physical health condition affecting sleep or substance use or erratic sleep pattern, lifestyle issues and sometimes associated problems like snoring or sleep talking or sleep walking. Start with good sleep hygiene techniques and lifestyle modifications. Read my blog on sleep on www.mindcarebangalore.com for full details. Schedule fixed time for sleep, get regular exercise including yoga and meditation, no naps during day, may be a a glass of warm milk at night, no use of back-lit gadgets once ready to sleep, address any underlying physical or psychological or stress issues, keep away from smoking or alcohol etc and eat healthy and light at night etc. Stop your restyl and consult a psychiatrist for a time limited use of relatively non addictive hypnotic, only if necessary. Best wishes
