Dear expectant Mom-to-be .
It is reassuring that you are
pregnant in the first place and that the septum has not affected your ability to conceive ! So let us celebrate that !
You are right to be anxious about the outcome as septate uterus has indeed been known to be associated with miscarriages , preterm labour , or improper positioning of the baby .
Though correction of the uterine defect can be considered in non-pregnant state , it is ABSOLUTELY not advised during an ongoing pregnancy as it would most certainly disturb the implanted fetus.
Now that you are pregnant , just wait it out and hope for the best as several women with septate uterus do carry healthy pregnancies to term without any problem.
Be careful to not put any additional burden on your uterus and avoid straining, lifting heavy weights, forward bending , intercourse , long jerky journeys , constipation or any chronic coughing .
You may also want to be in the safe hands of an experienced obstetrician specialising in high risk pregnancies who can guide you regarding the role of uterine relaxants , progesterone support , cervical length tracking and other precautions as per your indicidual case.
Next Steps
Avoid straining.
Regular cervical length monitoring by transvaginal USG between 4and 1/2 - 6 months .
Consider addition of profesterone and tocolytics in consultation with a gynaec.
