Typhoid is an illness spread by feco-oral route meaning that it is food and water bourne. Maintaining hand hygiene of all family members, preparing safe food (well cooked) and drinking purified (preferred boiled) water should arrest transmission. If household of patient is different, best to avoid visits till illness in the patient subsides.
