Regarding rabies vaccination

2025-07-29 11:02:34
I have a pet dog at home. On March 15 , he bit me accidentally. Since there was scratch with bleeding and my pet vaccination period expired by one month, I visited a hospital. They asked me to take 5 course vaccination ( rabivax) and tetanus,to be on safer side. I took and finished on april 14. My pet was given his vaccination one month back .On Sunday (July 16), while giving medicine for my pet, it bit me. There was a small scratch and very little bleeding on my hand. Do I have to take vaccination again. Do I have to visit hospital again. Can someone guide me Thanking you

No need of  full anti rabies vaccine  but you can take 2 doses of booster, since 3 months of first vaccination have just finished.

If there is bleeding then you should get immunoglobulin therapy for rabies as well along with vaccination for rabies as per schedule

In case of repeat dog bite within 3 months of complete vaccination you don't need repeat vaccination as per WHO guidelines.

No, there's no need of full course rabies Vaccination again as there's a history of full course vaccination a month ago but to be on safer side i would recommend to take 2 booster dose pn day 0 (day of bite) and day 3 that's it Hope you find it helpful.
Next Steps
Take booster dose on day 0 and 3.
Health Tips
everytime when animal bites, first thing to do is wash that area with soap and water for straight 5-10 minute then go see the doctor for further management.
