Regarding Lorazepam and Clonazepam

Can you explain which has more mental dependence and which has more physical dependence between Lorazepam and Clonazepam ? I know Lorazepam is short acting and Clonazepam is long acting. But from that point onward I want to understand the difference in the degree of both physical and mental dependence it causes.

Hello Both of these are among the  benzodiazepines with high abuse potential. Lorazepam has abuse potential because of its lipid solubility due to which high concentration is achieved in the brain immediately after its use and clonazepam has it because of both lipid solubility and potency.

consult a psychiatrist if you're or someone closer to you has developed dependence
Health Tips
if there is dependence, don't stop them altogether on your own. it may cause withdrawal seizures, particularly if there is dependence on other substances as well, which can be life-threatening

The physical and mental dependence for both is almost the same. Little higher for clonazepam than lorazepam

Hi there, This question is more of the academic interest rather than related to the patients problems. Whenever such drugs are written, the aim of the treating psychiatrist is to prescribe the medications according to the diagnosis and after that it’s to be tapered off to minimise the withdrawal symptoms of any.

Both are benzodiazepines  with a difference in duration of action. Clonazepam is longer acting and more potent than lorazepam. Almost same dependence potential, however more in clonazepam due to higher potency.
