RABIES VACCINE AFTER MONKEY'S CONTACT
On 21.09.2025, while feeding a monkey, its finger touched the cuticle of my right middle finger while it pulled the banana. No bite, very mild reddish blood at the site. Unsure if only torn cuticle or superficial linear scratch. I saw no saliva or wetness; since monkeys use all fingers while eating, I feel I would have noticed it. I washed with Dettol handwash for 1–2 min. My vaccine history: In 2018 at UHM Govt Hospital, I got intradermal doses with insulin syringe under both collarbones on days 0,7,14,21, then Rabipur IM in deltoid on day 28 at a private hospital. In 2020 at UHM Govt Hospital, I again got intradermal doses under both collarbones on days 0,7,14 with insulin syringe. Please confirm if this method was correct and effective. Given this history, do I now need 2 booster doses on days 0,3 or no treatment? Is RIG needed? If rabies were possible here, within how many days would it spread to brain and by when must vaccine be taken? How long does my past immunity last?

From your description, this looks like a superficial scratch with no visible saliva, which carries extremely low rabies risk. Since you have completed full post-exposure rabies vaccination in 2018 and 2020, you already have memory immunity. In such cases, only 2 booster doses (Day 0 and Day 3) are recommended — no need for RIG again.
Rabies vaccine is most effective when started promptly, but given your history, boosters alone are sufficient. Your past vaccination provides long-term protection.

Please do these things
1. Wash with soap and water for 15 min.
2. Disinfect with antiseptic
3. Stop bleeding and cover with sterile band aid
4. See a doctor immediately – may need rabies shot and tetanus booster.
5. Watch for infection (redness, swelling, pus, fever).

Just two days back I read in newspaper a German Shephard dog fully vaccinated, Just nail scretch to police is higher post in Ahmedabad , one day he delayed, but as all advi he go for vaccine, yet develop rabies unable to safe him. So sad incident. Just I gave u example not to teriffy u.
