Query related to tooth pain

I have done filling in wisdom teeth at the lower extreme left side. It had a previous filling but broke off recently. However, there was pain surrounding the tooth that continued for over 2 weeks. I visited another dentist, he did an x-ray and said there is still a cavity in the teeth, which is causing pain. Can anyone explain what he meant as I know I had a cavity and that's why I did the filling at first. How can there be a cavity as it has been filled? Your inputs will help me understand.

An x ray would surely make the scenario more clear. You wrote that the filling broke so there might be requirement of new filling. Or the infection would have reached the nerve of the tooth that’s why the pain and it might require root canal treatment. Or there might be some infection left earlier beneath the filling which will require proper cleaning and then refilling.

Wisdom tooth is at the very back of our dental arch , which makes it difficult for us to keep it clean . Henceforth , cavity development is more likely even after a filling placement. Also it depends with how much precision the cavity was excavated at first place and filled again as there can be previously perpetuating microbes and marginal leakage leading to deepening of the cavity.
Next Steps
Visit a dentist and get a thorough examination done .

Hi there can be secondary decay below a filling sometimes because of a break in the continuity of the filling , marginal leakage etc. Kindly attach the xray for further assistance.
Next Steps
Wisdom teeth even after a filling if they cause pain it is better to get them extracted.
