Prominent renal pelvis(4.3mm)both kidney
Hello doctor..now i am 21 weeks pregnant anomaly scan was done 10days before and it is showing that baby has prominent renal pelvis (4.3mm) on both kidneys. Doctors said that it should be observed in later scans and it should not increase.We are tensed about the baby.What are the harmful effects to the baby due to this prominent renal pelvis.What is the solution to this? Please explain about this and suggest the ways to cure this. We are worried that if this will be the major harmful effect to the baby. Please help us.
It seems there is an obstruction in the PELVI-URETERIC JUNCTION (PUJ), which is basically the outlet from the Kidney. In many cases, the obstruction may get spontaneously relieved after birth, but not in all cases.
It needs serial sonographic monitoring to establish that the Cortico-medullary differentiation is maintained.
Don't be worried, as in many cases it resolves on it's own , without any intervention.
However it's advised that you stay in touch with your Obstetrician and Pediatrician for monitoring so that if there is any complication , it can be managed effectively.
