For a 31-year-old male from Bangalore who develops indigestion after eating spicy, oily, or masala food, it is better to switch to simple, low-fat, and mildly seasoned meals. The problem is often due to acid reflux or gastritis, and heavy spices make digestion slower. You can safely include non-veg items that are light and protein-rich, such as boiled egg, grilled or steamed fish, skinless chicken, or egg whites. Avoid deep-fried chicken, biryani, mutton, and any dish made with excess chili or garam masala. Prefer soft preparations like chicken soup, fish stew, or egg curry made with minimal oil and mild spices such as turmeric and cumin. Eat small portions and chew well. Take dinner at least two hours before bedtime and drink water throughout the day. If indigestion continues despite avoiding spicy food, you may need an ultrasound or endoscopy to rule out gastritis or acid reflux disease. For a personalized diet plan and digestion management, book a consultation with me (Dr. Pankaj Kumar) on Practo.

Hello Your symptoms suggest gastritis or functional indigestion, commonly triggered by oily, spicy, and masala foods. Please avoid such items for a few weeks. Prefer light home-cooked food - steamed rice, dal, boiled or grilled chicken/fish (no masala), and boiled eggs or egg whites. Avoid red meat, fried snacks, tea/coffee on empty stomach, and late-night meals. Drink lukewarm water, take small frequent meals, and stay upright after eating. You may take Tab Pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before breakfast for 14 days, and Syp Digene 2 tsp after meals if burning persists. If pain, bloating, or acidity continues beyond 2-3 weeks, or you notice vomiting or black stools Take care, eat light anu stay hydrated.
Next Steps
Right now, please follow a light, non-spicy diet and take the prescribed medicines regularly for 2 weeks. If your symptoms don't improve or recur, the next step is to get: Upper GI Endoscopy - to check for gastritis, ulcer, or reflux. Basic tests: CBC, LFT, and H. pylori stool antigen (if not done before). Meanwhile, avoid painkillers, alcohol, and heavy oily meals. Continue hydration and small, frequent meals.
Health Tips
Helpful Tips: Eat small, frequent meals — don’t stay empty for long. Prefer boiled, grilled, or steamed food instead of fried. Drink lukewarm water or plain buttermilk after meals. Include curd, banana, coconut water, and light soups in diet. Manage stress and get adequate sleep — acidity often worsens with stress. A short walk after meals helps digestion. --- Word of Caution: Avoid spicy, oily, and junk food, excessive tea/coffee, alcohol, and smoking. Don’t take painkillers (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen without medical advice. If you notice vomiting, black stool, sudden pain, or weight loss, get checked immediately — it may need an endoscopy Continue your medicines on time; skipping doses may delay recovery.

Hello, I am Dr. Romain Rajan, General Physician. Your case has been allotted to me. I understand your concern indigestion or discomfort after eating spicy, oily, or masala-based food is quite common and usually occurs due to excess acid production or mild gastritis. Advices Eat smaller meals more frequently and chew food slowly. Avoid heavy masala gravies, deep-fried items, and very late dinners. Include curd or buttermilk daily as it helps soothe the stomach lining. Non-Veg Suggestions Prefer lean options such as boiled or grilled chicken, fish, or eggs rather than fried or spicy preparations. Avoid red meat and processed items like kebabs, tikkas, or sausages. Cook your non-veg food in minimal oil, with simple seasoning like salt, turmeric, or light herbs. What to Monitor Any increase in bloating, burping, or burning sensation after meals. Whether you feel heaviness or pain after specific foods or eating late at night. Management You may take a short course of a mild antacid syrup such as Digene or Gelusil after meals for a few days. Please avoid self-medicating beyond this, as your condition may need individual assessment if it persists. When to Consult a Doctor Immediately If you develop vomiting, blood in vomit, or black stools. If the pain radiates to the chest, jaw, or back. If acidity or indigestion continues for more than 2 weeks despite precautions. Every patient’s situation is unique. For accurate diagnosis and lasting relief, it’s important to discuss your medical history and symptoms in detail. You can reach out to me directly for this case, and also connect with me in future for any medical consultation. I am available on Practo or on WhatsApp at 85271646 seven seven for a one-on-one consultation, where you’ll receive: A personalized treatment plan Safe medicine adjustments (if required) Quick follow-ups to track your recovery Take care, wishing you good health. You can have meat soup or stew, they are mostly light if cooked in that way. Plus fish is a good option, preferably grilled, garnished with little olive oil. Include fish oil capsules post lunch or whichever meal suits you. For more queries, kindly consult to get your treatment and lifestyle plan.

Hi most of the times indigestion is due to having heavy meals with lots of oil, spice and masala. For the non veg options you can try light salads with boiled chicken and eggs included in the salads but include sprouts also which are a good source of protein and fibre also. Go for steamed fish rather than fried fish. But try to cut down on non veg if your indigestion is not coming down and meet a doctor for medications.
