POTS is an unlikely diagnosis in men. But it can be easily tested and confirmed with the monitoring of heart rate and BP. The monitoring of the heart rate is by Holter and that of the BP is by ABPM.
Further tests include investigations for the autonomic response and is done by electrophysiologists, a group of cardiologists specialising in heart rhythm.
Basic investigations also include CBP, ECHO, serum or urine metanephrines.
Next Steps
If the diagnosis is confirmed, exercise is the first step in the treatment. Supine exercises are to be preferred. These include rowing, swimming, and recumbent cycling. Increased fluid and salt intake is advised.
