Pneumonia from 5 days in ICU

2020-06-05 01:35:58
My mother is admitted in ICU from 5 days with NIV support. She is not getting better or worse. She also has stage 4 cancer. Duty doctor says it will take time but I think they are taking lot of time. She is on 80% fio2. They also found out fungal infection and viral infection is ruled out. Is there any way treatment can be faster at least to take her out of ICU? I think it is too much time in ICU.

I think you have to trust your doctor..she can improve any day..generally it takes about 10 days for pneumonia to recover

She seems to be in a critical condition . Her immune response would be slow since she has preexisting Carcinoma. So predicting a time frame of recovery is tricky. But she should come out of this .

I understand you concern. With the above limited parameters/significant comorbidities and complications, its difficult to give a time frame. Few individuals might improve in few days, few might take few weeks or months. So its better to discuss with treating physician and Intensivist  for further details.

As stated above as your mother age ? a stage IV cancer ?? Which organ ? ( not mentioned) Such cases are vulnerable for opportunistic infection, fungal and viral pneumonia. And prognosis is depending on comorbid illnesses. There is no mention of history and treatment details?
Next Steps
You have to trust and believe your physician.
