NT Scan with double marker test
Hi Doctors, I underwent ivf treatment and conceived in Jan month. I'm now 11 weeks and 3 days pregnant. My gynecologist recommended me to go for an NT scan along with double marker test between 7th and 17th February. Is this scan mandatory for everyone? I'm 35 now. My 1st pregnancy ended in miscarriage and I conceived now for 2nd time. I can see that this scan and test is to check for chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus. Does age have to do anything with abnormalities in fetus? I'm worried as this is a delayed pregnancy for me. Is there a chance for ivf pregnancy to result in chromosomal abnormalities in fetus? Kindly clarify.
I don't understand what any patient means when he or she asks, "Is this scan mandatory?"
You should appreciate that there is a difference between a Doctor and a Policeman. When a policeman tells you something and you don't act as per the orders, you can be punished.
No such luxury for Doctors. Our job is to give proper counseling. You are most welcome to ignore the Doctor's advice or even change your Doctor. You are free to do what you desire.

Yes the tests are mandatory
Chances of chromosomal abnormalities is there
Age is also a factor
But nowadays bcz of various reasons late pregnancies are happening
And they are successful too with good medical care and treatment
