Nitrofurantoin
I have urine infection from last three months
and done urine culture
So doctor prescribed nitrofurantoin for 7 days
I am worrying that will damage kidneys
Already my creatinine went 1.0 to 1.37
And have genetic kidney problem (not sure)
Does it effect kidney even bit?

At therapeutic doses , Nitrofurantoin is not nephrotoxic (unless you're have CKD or Impaired Renal profile to begin with ) . Also above mentioned history is insufficient to arrive at a definitive answer . Nitrofurantoin in prescribed doses is not nephrotoxic and quite safe. Unless you have chronic renal disease and diabetes, there should not be any hesitation to follow your doctor's prescription. Creatinine is definitely touching upper border but monitoring the creatinine levels must have been done by you at regular intervals. Is it consistently at that level or it is a single reading. You may consult with your previous reports.

There are always options that you can switch to. Nitrofurantoin excretion in urine is altered in case of kidney ailments. It won't harm your kidneys as such. Consult if needed.
