Hello sir/mam Yesterday my dog bite my toe, it bleeded He's been vaccinated till date with anti rabies and other vaccines, he is around 1.5 years old golden retriever Wound has been started healing but still have swelling, My dog's doctor said its not a problem But still i visited a doctor and he give me tetanus and anti rabies injection, and he said i have to take 4 more injections, on 3,7,14 and 28th day Wound in not deep at all Should i really have to take those injections??

Actually 5 doses of ARV don't give any long lasting protection. So even WHO recommendation is that if a person, after being fully vaccinated , is bitten by a dog even after two months, he has to have full course again. In your case the benefit is that the 1) the dog is vaccinated. 2) the dog is under observation. So you can relax a bit. If the dog remains all right after 10 days then you need not repeat the course.

Did you get vaccinated against rabies earlier? If the period was within last 5 years then no need... If it has exceeded 5 years then plz take...

Hi I can understand your concern. Yes you need to complete the course of medication. We should not be taking chance. Once you are vaccinated you are immune to rabies for next one year
