Mild superficial Kitten scratch 0.5 cm

2025-04-02 09:16:37
I got a superficial mild 5*0.5 cm kitten scratch on my left wrist on 25th march 2025 at around 2 pm . Just a surface cut , no bleeding. Cleaned the wound with soap and dettol . Took TT on 26th march 12pm . Took rabies vaccine 1st dose on 27th March 12pm . Took 2nd dose on 30th March already . Will the vaccine work ? Am I too late ? The stray kittens were born in my house balcony and had been there around 3/4 weeks before and at the time of scratch , lively and playful , having milk from its mom . The kittens are not there anymore . They ran away with their mom after the scratch incident. The wound has healed within a week . No redness ,pus , swelling , or any other symptoms at the site of cut , other than a mild itch , which is a part of the healing process , I believe . Am I Safe Or is there possibility of risk for Rabbies . Tomo is my 3rd dose . Attaching pic of scratch healing through days.

You are not too late. Every person who is exposed to a cat or rat bite doesn't develop Rabies. So it is very difficult to say whether you are safe due to vaccination or you are safe because the animal was not a carrier of Rabies virus. You have done your bit. No further action is indicated on your part.

Post exposure prophylaxis i.e. after animal bite vaccination has > 99% survival. It means you have very negligible chance of contacting rabies. I am attaching scientific evidence here: Ahmad N, Nawi AM, Jamhari MN, Nurumal SR, Mansor J, Zamzuri M'IA, Yin TL, Hassan MR. Post-Exposure Prophylactic Vaccination against Rabies: A Systematic Review. Iran J Public Health. 2022 May;51(5):967-977. doi: 10.18502/ijph.v51i5.9412. PMID: 36407746; PMCID: PMC9643235.
Next Steps
You should continue the scheduled doses of vaccines and be ready assured.
Health Tips
Try to vaccinate your pet animals and give your family members pre exposure prophylaxis vaccines.

After all you have received vaccine you are no need to worry but still get vaccinated fully. It’s okay to delay the vaccination day one or two days before and after. Since there’s no emerge of symptoms no need to worry, the wound and infection will be healed. Thank you
