Legumes, lentils, cereals, pulses etc

I have heard that kidney beans should not be used directly without soaking and cooking. Now by doubt is that is the same rule applicable for other legumes, lentils etc like chickpeas, beans or any other. Can we use directly grounded flour and use it to make chapatis? Or is it dangerous to health.
