Greetings As an orthodontist I would suggest you to undergo frenectomy as now is the perfect time. Logic being, frenum is the sure shot reason for causing spacing in the midline and removing the cause is equally important to avoid relapse of orthodontic treatment in future. Secondly, once the frenectomy is done, the gums will heal and there will be a small scar formation...and studies have shown this scar formation itself is the best retainer to keep the gap closed in future.

Hi, Thank you for the query. This is a very common question asked by patients who are undergoing a midline space closure (Diastema) using aligners. Although the correction is achieved using Aligners, the reason for the diastema being there is not corrected. Aligners only bring about tooth movement. However, the issue for the midline space most likely is due to the frenal attachment which has to be corrected. This can be done surgically using lasers. To avoid bleeding and fasten up recovery. If the frenal attachment is what caused the Diastema to begin with, then this is crucial to correct. Without removing the causative factor, the diastema may also relapse if there is hyper activity of the frenum over time. Hope this helps.
