For insulin resistance with a history of
thyroid disease and arthritis, Wegovy (semaglutide) is generally the better and safer option for long-term use compared to Mounjaro.
It has more long-term safety data, fewer gastrointestinal side effects, and is not known to worsen common thyroid conditions or arthritis.
Mounjaro is stronger but has more side effects and less long-term data, so it is usually considered only if Wegovy is not tolerated or ineffective.
Next Steps
• Start Wegovy at the lowest dose as prescribed
• Increase dose gradually
• Continue regular follow-up with your endocrinologist
Health Tips
• Avoid both medications if there is a personal or family history of medullary
thyroid cancer or MEN-2
• Expect mild nausea initially, which usually improves with time
