Strong underarm odour since early puberty is usually bromhidrosis - normal apocrine sweat being broken down by skin bacteria - and it is not caused by your epilepsy or by your anti-epileptic medicine. It is a bacterial and sweat problem, not a hygiene failure, so scrubbing harder does not help. Antibacterial soap, keeping the area dry and shaved, an aluminium chloride antiperspirant at night and a clindamycin lotion control it in most young men. If sweating is excessive, we look at underlying
thyroid or
sugar issues before considering stronger options. Do not stop or alter your epilepsy medication for this.
Next Steps
Start an antibacterial or benzoyl peroxide wash daily, keep the armpits shaved and dry, and apply an aluminium chloride antiperspirant on dry skin at bedtime. Wear cotton, change clothes daily. Give it 3 to 4 weeks. If the odour is still socially troubling, message me on Practo and we will step up treatment - this is very fixable.
