Stomach pain immediately after eating or drinking, along with a persistent background ache, is typical of gastritis or a peptic ulcer â and the most common cause is H. pylori bacterial infection. The antibiotic your doctor prescribed is most likely to treat this infection. It is very important that you complete the full course of antibiotics without stopping early, even if you still have some discomfort now â stopping early can lead to antibiotic resistance and the infection coming back. Regarding how long it will take: the pain and discomfort often start to ease noticeably within 3â5 days of starting treatment, but full improvement can take 1â2 weeks after completing the course. Also note that antibiotics themselves can sometimes cause temporary stomach upset â this usually settles once you finish the course. Alongside medicines, eat small and frequent meals, avoid spicy/oily/acidic foods, take the medication with food (not on an empty stomach), and avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen or aspirin.
Next Steps
Complete the remaining 2 days of medication. If pain worsens significantly, you vomit blood, or pass black stools â go to a hospital immediately. Follow up with your doctor after completing the full course. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.
