How much formula to give for 2 MO

2025-06-21 22:43:13
My son is turning 2 months old and I'm following 6-7 times best feeding and 2 times formula feed. Birth weight 2.78 kgs, current weight 4.5 kgs. He has regular poop and pee schedules. Currently I'm giving 90-100 ml formula twice a day. Is it ok to give that amount it needs more or less for this age? Please help. Thanks in advance.

Your infant is gaining proper weight. Diet seems suitable for the requirement. Give formula feed as much as the baby is able to drink at the time. 90-100ml per feed is not the limit. However, a good advice here would be to try and avoid formula feed as much as possible. If you are able to breastfeed the baby sufficiently 6-7 times then there is no doubt that you will be able to do it the rest of the times as well. It will help strengthen the emotional connection between you two and which will result in better breastfeeding. With every top feed you give the baby, the chances of successful breastfeeding reduces.
Next Steps
Try to exclusively breastfeed the baby intead of formula feeds.

Your child has the appropriate weight gain and you are following the proper guidelines - increase formula 10-20 ml every 15-20 days
Next Steps
Children are very smart - if they are full they won't take more food so dont worry about increasing feeds

With increasing age,we advise ad Libitum feeding…which means as much as required. 90 ml is fair enough volume… But what is important is A) breast feeds are best. B) 3 scoops of formula for 90 ml volume. Maintain dilution as 30 ml water with 1 scoop of formula …and increments in same proportion. C) if you wish to increase, based on demand…. It should be prepared as 120 ml with 4 scoops.

Your baby’s feeding plan sounds well balanced and appropriate! Here’s why: ⸻ ✅ Feeding Guidelines for a 2-Month-Old Baby: • Average weight gain: Babies typically gain about 20–30 grams per day. • Formula requirement (general): A 2-month-old baby needs about 120–150 ml of milk per kg of body weight per day. • At 4.5 kg, that’s approximately 540–675 ml/day from all sources (breast + formula). Since you are breastfeeding 6–7 times and giving 180–200 ml formula per day, your baby’s total milk intake is likely within the right range. ⸻
Next Steps
✅ Final Advice: You’re doing everything correctly. Continue breastfeeding on demand and give 90–100 ml formula twice a day as you’re doing. Reassess with your pediatrician at the 2-month vaccination visit, but from what you shared — your baby is thriving. Let me know if you’d like a feeding chart, growth tracking tool, or help with weaning plan in the coming months.
