High fever and acute diarrhoea

2025-11-24 20:47:01
My father has type 2 diabetes and is 70 years old. He has suddenly started having very high fever from today morning, and acute diarrhoea, which is almost watery and he is unable to control. When he has high fever, he is unable to maintain his balance. So we consulted a doctor at home. He has given 1g paracetamol and linezolid 600mg. He had 104F fever at 9pm when he took 1g paracetamol. But at 1 am, he again has 102.7F and after wet cloth application, it has not improved. He has also taken 1 dose of the antibiotic. What should my course of action be?

This needs urgent medical care. A 70-year-old with diabetes, 104°F fever + watery diarrhea + imbalance is not safe to manage at home. ✅ Do NOW: Go to the nearest ER immediately (do not wait ) He may need IV fluids, electrolytes, blood sugar check, and stool/ blood tests. Monitor for: confusion, very low urine output, dizziness, breathing difficulty. ⚠️ Important points: Linezolid is NOT appropriate for acute diarrhea and should NOT be continued without hospital advice. High fever returning despite paracetamol suggests serious infection / dehydration. ⏳ Do NOT delay if: Cannot stand/walk, drowsy, very weak Persistent vomiting Blood pressure low Blood in stool Sugar very high or very low

Please consult a physician physically in a hospital. because your Father needs assessment of blood sugar, b.p., hydration, electrolytes,  urgently. Tests needed urgent blood sugar, electrolytes,  complete blood count,  urine microscopic,  X ray chest. Treatment should be based on this. All this would be possible in hospital setting only.

Your father has high-grade fever with acute diarrhoea and imbalanc in a 70-year-old diabetic can become serious very quickly. But given the persistent fever and weakness he needs proper evaluation, hydration assessment, and possibly a change in treatment. I recommend taking a quick consultation so I can understand his symptoms in detail and guide you on the right next steps.
Next Steps
Please book an urgent online consult so we can assess his condition and decide whether he needs hospital evaluation or can be managed at home.

High Fever and watery diarrhoea can be symptoms of Food poisoning. You can continue to take PCM for fever if still not controlled visit a nearby hospital. If loose stools are persisting, give ORS 200-250ml after every episode but if severe diarrhoea present go to hospital immediately and get his BP and blood sugar levels checked if in case he may require IV fluids.
