Ideally if u were incidentally detected to have HBsAg positive status with no family history ,or transfusion or drug abuse , u need to repeat your HBs Ag after 6 months . If it is still positive then likely u have chronic HBV infection . U also need to undergo IgM HBc to rule out acute infection. Co infections with Hepatitis C or
HIV needs to be ruled out . Family screening needs to be done for hepatitis B infection. Treatment will be started based on multiple factors and visit to Gastroenterologist/hepatologist is required.
U also need to have yearly ultrasound and AFP monitoring (esp after the age of 40 earlier if family history of
liver disease/cancer)
Next Steps
Get HCV antibody and
HIV testing if not done already,
LFT panel
Ultrasound abdomen / Fibroscan to rule out
liver fibrosis
IgM HBc antibody (differentiate acute /reactivation from chronic HBV)
and proceed further
