In general, gynecomastia results from a hormonal imbalance in the body. All normal humans have both male and female hormones to a certain extent. Gynecomastia occurs when male hormones (androgens) are relatively low compared to the level of female hormones (estrogens) in the body. This can transiently occur during normal development of boys, resulting in gynecomastia in infants or during puberty. In these cases, gynecomastia usually resolves on its own as hormone levels return to normal.
Other reasons can be :
Excessive Weight Gain.
Hormonal changes within the body where
testosterone levels drop due to conditions such as ‘Hypogonadism’ (in men, the inability of the testicle’s to function correctly) and estrogen levels increase.
Medications used to treat other disorders such as certain anti -depressants, cancer medication, and anti-anxiety medications among others.
Excess consumption of alcohol and certain drugs.
Hyperthyroidism (excess
thyroid secretion by the thyroid gland).
Next Steps
A variety of chest compression garments and vests are available to help minimize discomfort and/or improve cosmetic appearance if desired.
Health Tips
It is possible to reduce most of the appearance of gynecomastia without going under the needle or taking medication.
Here are some actionable tips to significantly reduce your gynecomastia symptoms.
Stop Doing Flat Bench Press
The flat bench or dumbbell press is the most common exercise when it comes to building muscle. For those with gynecomastia, it only makes it worse.
The trick is to do focus on the incline press. Yes, it’s the exercise you neglected because you can “lift more” on the flat bench and it did more for your ego.
Building your upper pecs will make it more pronounced, therefore making the middle and lower chest look smaller. It’s similar to the tricks women do when applying makeup.
It’s recommended to do these exercises:
Decline bench press
Close-grip dips
X-Cross Cable Fly
Cable Push Down (using the flat bar attachment)
