Since the tooth next to it is very painful, there are chances that the tooth has a decay or the adjacent tooth has secondary decay causing referred pain. There might be an infection in the bone causing soreness in gums. Do see your dentist as soon as possible to avoid the infection entering the bloodstream. Depending on the problem you would require immediate treatment.
You can take regular pain or fever medication that you usually take for now.
