Grade 2-3 meniscus tear & Ganglion cyst
Hello Doctor, I fell down 10-12 stairs 8 months back. Back then Doctor was suspecting minor tears in both knees on the basis of normal x rays and recommended me knee support brace along with RICE therapy for few months. Over the time I realised that my knee pain was not reducing and specially left knee has been unbearable after little walk. I got the MRI done of left leg. I am sharing the findings of the report here :- 1) Grade 2/3 tear in posterior horn of medial meniscus with suspicious intersecting to the inferior articular surface, 2) Cystic lesion in posterior compartment of thigh indenting muscular plane- representing ganglion cyst. Kindly check and advise the possible next steps for me. Is there still a possibility to heal this without surgery. If surgery, then what kind of surgery will it be and how soon should I go for it? Please help me here. Thanks!

This treatment is being suggested on bases of the information provided. However
I would like to examine & investigate you in detail.
-Control Hypertension, Diabetes or metabolic disorder, if there is any.
-Any way it may be tried,
--. Dolokind Plus (Mankind) [Aceclofenac100 mg +Paracetamol 350 mg] 1 tab. OD & SOS. X 5 days.
--. Caldikind plus (Mankind) 1 tab OD x 10 days.
-(You may need help of your local doctor to get these medicines.)
--. Fomentation with warm water. Let the part not be exposed to cold.
--. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding.
--. Use no pillow under the head.
--. Avoid painful acts & activities.
-- .Do mild exercises for the affected part-ie.knee and legs.

Many a times the mri report can overestimate the injury to the meniscus or other structures. Clinical evaluation along with the correlation to mri films will be crucial to decide whether to undergo surgery or not. Is there any popping sound or locking of knee in any specific position?

Hello, meniscal tears of grade 3 need to be treated surgically if you do not get better symptomatically. But need to clinically examine you and see the MRI images. The cyst can be left alone or can be decompressed during an arthroscopic procedure. Basically, if your symptoms are not subsiding for 2 to 3 months and the surgeon is convinced of a grade 3 tear in MRI, he will advise you a surgical intervention. Hope this helps.

Need to see the MRI films and clinical examination of your knee for final intervention if needed..however meniscus tears don't heal by its own or with medicines. Meniscus tear needs arthroscopic surgery that is key hole surgery and patient can start walking next day. Only 1 day stay needed in hospital.
