My mother has 3 fractured ribs. She is having pain while moving around. The doctor has advised heating pad. Should heating pad be applied or ice pack is a better option?

Hot and ice packs both should be tried and whichever gives her better relief she should follow that from next time. Fracture ribs treatment is pain control and fracture will unite on its own in 6 weeks

Slow breathing exercises and steam inhalation are required.  Ribs heal without any difficulty. Ice packs or hot compression is dependent on skin sensitivity. If suitable Ice is best in the intial 1 week of trauma period
