Mild fever can occur after an influenza (flu) vaccine, usually starting within 1–2 days and resolving within 1–3 days. However, fever persisting for 3 days, especially in a young child or infant, deserves clinical assessment because an intercurrent infection may coincide with vaccination. What to do * Continue fluids frequently. * Keep clothing light and avoid over-wrapping. * If uncomfortable or fever is significant, paracetamol can be used according to the child’s weight. Routine antipyretic use solely to prevent vaccine reactions isn’t generally necessary.
