Failed RCT

2017-02-09 04:31:16
I have a RCT in 2014 . Now I observed there is a swelling in gums under treated area. Yesterday I went for checkup and according to xray the doctor told me there is a tooth abscess in root of treated canal. She also told me re - treatment is also risky ( I could not understand the term risky ) and no 100% chance if swelling will treat. She give an appointment in next month but now I m concern about my treatment . I want to ask if there is any other treatment instead of re treatment of root canal or if I go for RCT again it will solve problem permanently without extraction of tooth. Plz reply

Root canal treatment or any other treatment doesn't give guaranteed success, retreatment may be necessary to save the tooth and to eliminate any infection..if the tooth is strong in bone(periodontally sound) then re rct is the best treatment to save the tooth.extraction of the tooth is done when there is no other option left to eliminate the infection caused by tooth abscess.
Next Steps
you should get the x ray from the doctor and post it here so that we all can understand the underlying problem
Health Tips
consult an endodontist(root canal specialist)

Generally re treatment for RCT is less successful.if you don't want to extract you can get retirement which will be non surgical method.or to increase success rates you can get treated by surgical method

Hello, i think the hospital that you went was a government hospital or a charitable one. because no doctor in this world will wait for 1 month to start as it can lead to further complications like space infection. well that is a differnt story. lets come to tour problem. it can be done with re-rct with ease if the infection is for first time if it is a recurring procedure or any instrument breakage is there then may be we have to go for a minor periapical surgery ( surgery at root area of teeth). or otherwise one root can be saved. i mean at any cost your teeth can be saved. depending upon infection

Re Treatment or re-rct has a less favorable prognosis unless performed diligently. That's why your dentist may have used the term risky. If the abscess is severe then it can be drained surgically by giving an incision.
Next Steps
Better visit an endodontist
Health Tips
Etiology or reason for the abscess must be known.

Get Re rct  done from endodontist. Thats best option. Because extraction at this young age should be last choice treatment cost for re rct is much less than replacing extracted tooth. Also no replacement would be as great as natural tooth so whenever possible save tooth . Just visit dentist n check whether tooth is not vertically fractured.
Next Steps
visit endodontist

Hello, Please visit an MDS ENDODONTIST. not a general dentist. Best option is to be conservative and try and save the tooth. There is no guarantee though. Second option should be to extract and put an implant there in same socket as you r very young. Bridge should be last option .
Next Steps
visit an endodontist

Re-RCT is the only treatment choice. Generally in more than 90% of the cases tooth becomes fine after Re-RCT. Re-RCT is required in cases when RCT has not been done properly before for example when a canal is not filled properly. If you go for extraction, replacement cost is more because in that case you will need a bridge of 3 teeth. Nothing compared to saving your natural tooth by Re-RCT.
Next Steps
Get an X-Ray of the tooth done, before deciding on the next course of action.
Health Tips
Take a decision as soon as possible.
