Patching was done in the past. Unsterile patching is even more dangerous. Small perforations generally heal with time if there’s no superadded infection. Bigger non-healing ones need surgical treatment, prefers after control of infection and inflammation.

No sir, patching doesn't help at all. If the eardrum perforation is small and ear has no infection, it heals naturally within few months. We need to make sure patient doesn't consume anything refrigerated and her ear is kept dry always(use swimming ear plugs while bathing). Few quacks or untrained persons make use of the nature and place a patch inside the ear and claim that they have healed the eardrum. Placing a patch infact leads to Allergic ear infections. If eardrum perforation doesn't heal and there's frequent discharge (pus) from ear, consult an ENT specialist for appropriate treatment and procedure.
