Yes, you can and should switch to the deltoid (shoulder) muscle for your remaining doses. The gluteal (buttocks) region is not recommended for rabies vaccination as it has been shown to produce a lower immune response compared to the deltoid. Your first dose in the buttocks will still contribute to your immunity, but switching to the shoulder from dose 2 onwards is the correct approach â exactly as you have already discussed with your doctor. Your vaccine schedule and protection will not be compromised by this switch.
Next Steps
Continue your remaining doses on schedule (Day 3, 7, 14) in the deltoid muscle. Feel free to consult me directly on Practo if you have any further concerns about your PEP course.
