Hello there! Being a student and trying to balance several other things along with the course load can be extremely tough. Since you prefer studying at night and catching up on your sleep during the day, this might be affecting your mind and body to a certain degree. Not because this is wrong- being an early bird or a night owl does not define your productivity or mental capacity. This can simply be because your body is used to resting during night hours and the reverse schedule is making it difficult for the body to adapt. This will go away with a little more time, as the body slowly starts to adjust to your new routine.
Now, this doesnât mean that you need to wait it out for your body to get settled. Along with time, a set routine or schedule will also help you adjust more healthily to your new routine. If you prefer sleeping during the day, then set a time to sleep and wake up, and follow that religiously everyday. Set a schedule for your entire day where you follow meal hours, sleeping hours, study hours as well as exercising hours. If your body is used to exercise and activity, set a time during the day to exercise as well. You could set a time for exercising after waking up during the day, post exercise you can have a small meal and then start your studies. A relatively rigid schedule should help your body adjust more quickly and help you feel less tired. But donât tie all of your hours up in some form or work or activity. Leave a few hours here and there open for things that you wish you do should the whim aruse. Things like reading, watching TV, painting, etc.; activities you donât normally engage in. This will help our body and mind stay more flexible and not fall into a strict pattern which might get difficult to break if you change a few items on your schedule.
Sleeping properly and for at least 6-8 hours is necessary, so make sure you are getting proper sleep everyday. Other than that you need to ensure your concentration doesnât break often as this might make your brain more used to distraction, causing you to find it more and more difficult to focus on your studies or other activities. Along with a proper sleep pattern and solid, healthy meals throughout the day, improving your concentration is also a necessity as a student. While good sleep and regular exercise are incredibly important for improving concentration, there are a few steps you can take to enhance it further and ensure its lack does not compromise with your study.
Try to avoid distractions like phones, or games. If you need your phone for school work and information gathering, try to set a limit on apps that are unnecessary to your study process.
Take frequent breaks between your studies, so that you donât feel too exhausted. Take a 5-10 minute break for each hour you study, to feel more energetic.
Try meditation. This will help you not only improve your concentration, but also your sleep.
Listening to music can also help you feel more refreshed and hone your focus more.
Spend some time with nature. If possible go for a short walk or head out to your garden and spend some time among the plants. This instantly relaxes a person and helps with the focus. You can also make a game out of this by closing your eyes and trying to listen for the sounds around you and naming them. This increases focus and works to develop your concentration further.
