Diastema issue

I never had a teeth gap (between my front teeth). I am 37 year old now. I visited a dentist 2 years back just when the gap started to widen and I was advised to wear retainer to keep the teeth in position and gap wouldn't increase. Presently the gap started to increase though I have been wearing the retainer since last 2 years. How can I stop it? I don't want to go for temporary fix.. is that okay to wear braces and fix it?

increasing spaces between the teeth could  be  with infections related to gingiva and bone surrounding teeth . consult periodontist to rule out periodontal infection. then consult orthodontist for correction of spaces . removable appliance can not give permanent solution for your complaint . rule out systemic diseases like diabetes and thyroid problems.

The cause of the gap has to be ascertained first. If it is a bite issue then braces can correct it. Yes you can do braces at any age provided your gum condition is good. Get an OPG X-ray done and consult your dentist
