A. Depressive disorder is diagnosed by using clinical methods. In a depressive disorder the cardinal feature is persistent low mood or irritability, lack or loss of interest in pleasurable activities, lack of enjoyment or pleasure, negative thoughts about past, present and/or future. B.The depressive disorder is also likely to be apparent in behavior of person. However some persons may have a depressive disorder but may appear normal from outside. Such presentation may be misleading or may be missed by family or friends.
C. Mood swings is term used for fluctuations in mood from low to irritable to happy etc. Mood swings may be present in persons not suffering from any psychiatric illness also (specifically in teens or persons in stress), or in illness like depression, bipolar disorder, borderline personality, dementia, brain related or neurological disorder etc.
