sry to hear that. u can check with ur physician and go for proper investigations to rule out any such infection and next tym make sure to ask ur dentist or staff to change suction tips

Hello every doctor will be keen enough to see that patient is in safe hands and to practice ethics.Infections can spread through minute quantity of blood and saliva.consult physician and get investigation done .Generally disposable suction tips will be used for each and every patients to prevent cross infection.

I myself might not be knowing all the dentists in India personally,but let me assure you of one thing, with confidence..... it is almost next to impossible that the dentist is not changing the disposable items like masks,gloves,suction tips,syringes etc between patients..... it is not only a health hazard for you, but it is equally risky for the operating dentist also...... the cost of these materials is not high and no person will risk his or the patient's health to save that much amount of money.....  it's actually not worth taking the risk...... nonetheless, whenever you have a doubt, feel free to talk to your dentist about the same...... it is quite possible that the dentist must have changed the suction tip before you walked into the operatory just to save some time.... Hi...its unfortunate for you to undergo this kind of a treatment ..All the dentists including myself make sure we change the suction tip and gloves and use auto claved (sterlised) instruments for each patients treatment. It's better to open the sterlisation pouch in front of the patient so that he/she will be feeling comfortable to know that we do care about health and well being of both the patient and the doctor .you have every right to  ask about the basic amenities of the clinic.Some times it will be mistake on the behalf of dental assistant or dentist , but I feel sorry for your experience . Regarding infections like hiv or hepatitis it's true saliva is one of mediums of infection .but u need a large quantity of it  say minimum of one large cup of saliva is required to be ingested topass on infection .and suction has a vaccum pull action so every thing inside your mouth is ducked inside not pushed into .so don't worry . Saying all this, I would ask you to meet your dentist to ask these 1) did the patient underwent any procedure where bleeding was present ( blood is required in smaller amount to get infected) 2) do they change the suction tube after every patient . ( at least they will start noticing this ) 3) do they use protocols like disinfecting the suction pumb ( available in market specially designed for suction pumbs to kill and inhibit colonisation of bacteria along the surface of pumb). If you are not satisfied with these answers please  avoid that dental clinic in future . To all other readers select your dentist wisely ..no doctor has right to put your safety into jeopardy.

Its your birthright to ask the doctor if the suction tip is new or in case of a metal suction , should be sterile.  Chances of infection are definitely high in such scenarios. Choose a dental clinic that has transparency about the sterilisation of instruments and choose clinics that pack, date and sterilise reusable instruments.
