Am a root canal specialist pertaining to ur concern, abscess comes due to reason:
1) due to decay( chronic)
2) fracture if not treated immediately
If ur tooth looks alright in xray with just a decay without any other tissue damage(bone loss and mobility), pls u can go ahead with root canal treatment (RCT).
RCT is to 1st completely clean the infection from ur tooth, once we give the way for the pus from abscess to drain manually outside to the tooth, we seal it permanently by doing obturation next appointment without further leakage from infection. I also don't recommend u to have too much of tablets , because I will keep the antibiotic dressing inside your tooth on the cleaning day and the very next 2-3days boil/ abscess reduce in its size. Next appointment will be your filling day followed by crown capping.
