D dimer 5000

2026-06-26 16:45:42
Hi, I suffered mild fibula Avulsion 22 days back and have been tolerating my weight ever since second day of recovery. I developed calf pain around day 19 and went to check. my d dimer blood result showed 5000 here in UK and next day they did Doppler scan and no clots were found. I . My question is would I be able to develop new clot after this as I am scared of it. I normally try to walk around 5k steps a day with walkable boots on my left leg. I should wear it for 6 more days(total 4 weeks). Thanks

An elevated D-dimer after a fibula fracture is expected and does not confirm a clot — D-dimer rises with any tissue injury, inflammation, or trauma. The reassuring finding is that your Doppler scan showed no clots. Since you're mobile (5000 steps/day), this significantly reduces your DVT risk. Continue gentle mobilization as it is the best protection against clot formation.
Next Steps
Complete the boot course as advised, stay mobile, stay hydrated, and watch for signs of sudden calf swelling, redness, or warmth — if these occur, seek immediate evaluation. Please consult me directly on Practo for a detailed evaluation.

Elevated D-dimer can occur post injury without clot Negative Doppler is reassuring.  Continue boots as advised and gradual activity. A video consultation can review reports for peace of mind. Feel free to book one.

High d dimer can be post injury. Continue using boots. Increase physical movements slowly. If possible go for physiotherapy.
