I have been having a minor toothache from last 2 days but the pain became severe last night. Left side of jaw.

If the pain increased on having hot food or fluids or something sweet and on lying down then it means that you might require a root canal treatment. Also it can be verified by taking an intra oral peri apical radiograph.
