Hello. Your mother could be going through the mood swings associated with menopause. However since this is excessive in her case, you should see a psychiatrist who will diagnose and treat underlying mood disorder.

Could be menopause superficially. Yet,  there could be some frustration which she couldn't show up during their earlier married years,  is all coming out due to her added physical and biological discomfort.
Next Steps
Do fix an appointment with a counselor and help her to speak her mind and to get clarity to lead a cheerful life.

Menopause period does lead to significant mood changes. However I would still recommend that if these changes have started affecting her to this extent you must consult a Psychologist so that some basic relaxation exercises can be taught to her. In addition if need be she can also be given a proper treatment plan. I would suggest first session to be a face to face counselling session  for her.
Next Steps
You as family need to be patient do not get irritated or reply back in a aggressive manner. provide emotional support, listen to her let her vent out if she wants to. Keep her busy.
