Hi... CBT and ERP both are effective in treating negative or anxious thoughts & emotions. Infact Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is also a form of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) which was developed specifically to treat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).
It is natural to have such inhibitions about the outcome of a therapeutic intervention but going too much into it only reduces the chances of a healthy recovery.
For any treatment to be effective a certain level of trust is necessary, not only on the professional but on the treatment methodology itself. Unfortunately, due to lack of awareness people often fall prey to such inhibitions and delay their treatment.
The first step is assessment, based on which a prognosis is made and accordingly the treatment begins.
The problem here is that you are trying to figure out a choice of treatment without having undergone any assessment by a professional.
It is like a heart patient thinking of choosing the correct surgery without consulting a Cardiologist.
