Burning Sensation During Urination
Hi Doctor, I'm a 20-year-old female. I had my first sexual intercourse about 7 days ago, and it was protected. I'm currently on my period. For the past few days, I've been experiencing a burning sensation mainly at the end of urination, which continues for a short while after I finish peeing. I don't remember exactly when it started, but it began after intercourse. Please advise

Burning at the end of urination after intercourse is most often due to urinary infection or urethral irritation; vaginal infection can also cause similar symptoms. Protected intercourse lowers STI risk but does not completely exclude it. A urine test is needed before choosing treatment. Please book a Practo consult with me if symptoms persist or recur.

Give a clean-catch urine routine/microscopy and culture, preferably after the period if symptoms allow; tell the doctor if there is discharge, itching, sores, or a new partner, as STI testing may then be required. Drink water and avoid scented washes and irritant products. Seek urgent care for fever, vomiting, blood in urine, or flank/back pain.

Burning at the end of urination after your first time can happen from minor friction or irritation, and it can also point to a mild urinary infection.
