Hello, Let me answer one by one - 1.According to the expert orthodontists, the critical period is right after the treatment & the  teeth trying to adapt to the new position . So during this period Retainers should be placed. 2. They may be of  removable or may be fixed depending on the type of teeth & jaw position & other factors to last for longer periods . 3.They may be of metal or plastic .

Retainers are to be worn as soon as the braces are removed. Except for a few cases of permanent retention, upto 1 year is the recommended period to wear the retainer. Even after a year it is recommended that you atleast wear the retainer at night atleast after that.

Ideally retainers should be placed before removing braces or immediately as soon as braces are removed as the chances of relapse to initial tooth position is more in first few days of braces removal . And retainers should be worn for at least one to one n half years after removing braces.

Retainer must wear for one year

Once the braces are removed, retainers must be delivered within 24hours. Retainers must be worn minimum of 1 year.
