Hi there, The yellow layer behind your tooth is known as plaque. There are many factors causing this. This may be the main reason for bleeding gums and bad breath as well. But the good news is,you need not worry. Please visit your dentist as soon as possible and get it cleaned and follow the instructions which your dentist gives you.

From the symptoms, reported by you it seems that their is calculus deposition in addition to gingival inflammation, resulting in bleeding from gums. A Subgingival Curettage along with a supragingival one should resolve the case, provided you follow a strict oral hygiene maintenance regime coupled with proper Brushing ( Technique ).
