Baby cries a lot
Hi,
My 10 weeks old baby cries a lot since birth. His weight gain is fine. He pees over 8 times a day and passes motion in 2-3 days.
Till 2 months he has been on breastmilk and formula in parallel. Now, I have been feeling he can be brought exclusively on breastmilk but he continues to suck even when he is full and has burped.
I am trying to keep him on breastmilk but since he starts crying a lot, all at home feel that he is hungry and requires top feed.
Also, he has gases for which I give him carmicide 5 drops daily.
Please suggest how to bring the baby totally on breastmilk. Once he cries, it becomes unmanageable since he cries so loudly and fiercely as if something has happened. But once taken to breast, he becomes quiet. So, this shows nothing is paining else he would not have stopped crying.
How can I manage his crying without switching to top feed. Particularly at night, his cries increase a lot. He cannot be kept to breast continuously for hours to calm him.

You are a curious mom and you got a fussy baby.ok firstly by your history as baby is having weight well and passing urine and stool nicely but since the child gets so irritated then an ear examination and an ultrasound abdomen would not harm the child .Breast milk is a natural soother to child so putting the child to breast tends to solve the irritability issue but leaves the mother exhausted.that is what is happening with you .
So
1.plot the child's growth on a growth chart and see if the baby is doing well.
2.get the tests done as I have just mentioned
3.you yourself should sleep when the baby sleeps that will give you some relaxation.
4. Get your feeding technique checked ,there are videos on you tube from Australian breastfeeding association ,please see them.
5.babies settle by 12 weeks with their night schedule.
Next Steps
try colic hold for crying or turning TV at zero channel ie: the buzzing sound .try it you are the best judge.best of luck😙😰

Don't worry at all I can understand your situation.. pretty difficult but quite common... Only answer to this issue is keep on giving breastfeeding till he is satisfied... Initially it will take long almost continuous but as the time passes baby will learn to extract milk from the breast quickly. You just need to ensure that baby is gaining weight and passing urine every four hours on exclusive breastfeeding.
